CRACK AND COCAINE POWDER DEALER GETS 131 MONTHS
SACRAMENTO--United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today that MICHAEL STEVENS, 38, of Oakland, California was sentenced today by United States District Judge William B. Shubb to 131 months in federal prison. The defendant had pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute121 grams of cocaine base. He also had in his possession over 400 grams of cocaine powder.
This case is the product of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), United States Marshal Service, and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), whose officers finished the case with a successful three-mile pursuit of the defendant through Sacramento city streets.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Matthew D. Segal, who prosecuted the case, on June 2, 2004, the defendant was being sought for an arrest warrant out of Alaska. He was located traveling eastbound on Interstate 80, pursued by CHP, and arrested with the cocaine and crack in his possession. Judge Shubb, in sentencing the defendant, said that the defendant had compounded his fault by creating a dangerous situation when he led officers on an auto pursuit.
