BUTTE COUNTY MAN SENTENCED TO 41 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR UNLAWFUL FIREARM POSSESSION DURING HIGH SPEED CHASE

SACRAMENTO--United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today that DAVID ALLEN WILLIAMS, II, 25, of Oroville, California, was sentenced today for the crime of felon in possession of a firearm. WILLIAMS was sentenced this morning in Sacramento by United States District Judge Edward G. Garcia.

This case is the product of an extensive investigation by the Butte County Sheriff's Office, the Chico Police Department, the Oroville Police Department, and the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation located in Chico, California.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Rodriguez, who prosecuted the case, WILLIAMS previously was convicted by the State of California in March 2006 of felony vehicle theft. Subsequently, on August 10, 2006, WILLIAMS was arrested for possessing a 9mm Makarov pistol. The arrest occurred after he evaded officers during a high speed chase through heavy traffic at 7:25 p.m, reaching speeds of over 80 mph through residential streets of the city of Oroville. When the weapon was recovered, it was fully loaded and cocked in the firing position.

Judge Garcia sentenced WILLIAMS to 41 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. The court imposed a more severe sentence due to WILLIAMS having endangered the community by driving at excessive speeds and having been convicted in 1998 for vehicular manslaughter in Oroville.
