ILLEGAL ALIEN CAUGHT RUNNING DRUGS IN SISKIYOU COUNTY PLEADS GUILTY

SACRAMENTO – United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today that RAUL FRUTOS-ARROYO, 33, of Michoacan, Mexico, pleaded guilty yesterday, April 23, 2007, to possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of ammunition, and illegal re-entry into the United States by an alien. The defendant entered his guilty plea before Senior United States District Judge Edward J. Garcia.
This case is the product of a joint investigation by the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol, and the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Michael M. Beckwith, who is prosecuting the case, FRUTOS-ARROYO was found in possession of distribution quantities of methamphetamine, drug distribution paraphernalia, a firearm, and ammunition.
FRUTOSARROYO has prior felony convictions for sexual abuse and selling drugs to minors.
The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge David F. Levi on July 19, 2007, at 10 a.m. The combined maximum statutory penalty for violations of 21 U.S.C. § 841, 18 U.S.C. § 922, and 8 U.S.C. § 1326 is 50 years of imprisonment. However, the actual sentence will be dictated by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of factors, and will be imposed at the discretion of the court.
