FORMER CALIFORNIA PAROLE AGENT SENTENCED IN CIVIL RIGHTS OFFENSE FOR GROPING SUPERVISEE
SACRAMENTO—United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced today that RONALD TRAVIS, 56, of Elk Grove, a former California Parole Agent, was sentenced today before United States Magistrate Judge Dale A. Drozd in connection with a federal civil rights misdemeanor offense involving his relationship with a woman who was under his supervision as a parolee in 2005. TRAVIS, who is no longer employed by the California Department of Corrections, was sentenced to two years of probation, with conditions including six months of home confinement on electronic monitoring, 50 hours of community service, and a fine of $2,000.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the California Department of Corrections Office of Internal Affairs.
According to Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner, who prosecuted the case, TRAVIS in his previous plea of guilty admitted that he kissed, groped, and fondled a woman who was under his supervision on several occasions in May and June 2005. The supervisee submitted to TRAVIS’s contact because she feared that he would misuse his official authority over her if she refused.
