Petition Circulator Pleads Guilty to Voter Registration Fraud
LOS ANGELES – A 26-year-old owner of a voter registration company pleaded guilty today to voter registration fraud and agreed to legally register at his correct address, the District Attorney’s office announced.
Mark Jacoby, a professional “circulator” who collects voters’ signatures for petition drives, entered the plea to a misdemeanor count before Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Horwitz. He was immediately sentenced to three years probation, 30 days of Caltrans service and must show proof that he is registered to vote at his correct address in Laguna Beach, said Deputy District Atty. Edward Miller with the Public Integrity Division.
On two separate dates, Jacoby, who owns “Young Political Majors,” registered to vote listing Los Angeles addresses that were not his residence. In order to circulate petitions in California, one must be a registered voter or qualified to register.
As part of the plea agreement, two felony counts of perjury and one felony count of voter registration fraud were dismissed.
Jacoby was arrested last October by Ontario Police and investigators with the Secretary of State’s Office, which investigated the case.
