Former Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Sentenced
TORRANCE – The former executive director of the Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce – convicted two months ago of grand theft and forgery – was sentenced to state prison today.
Deputy District Attorney Ann Lee of the Torrance Branch Office said Karen Sue Hale, 53, was sentenced to a five-year, eight-month prison term.
Hale was charged last year in connection with the alleged embezzlement of more than $40,000 from the Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Jurors convicted the defendant on March 27 of one count of grand theft of personal property and four counts of forgery. As chamber executive director, the defendant was responsible for collecting payments from chamber members and making bank deposits.
