SHELLTOWN GANG MEMBER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE METHAMPHETAMINE

Eduardo Barajas, a member of Shelltown 38th Street Gang, was sentenced today to serve a term of 10 years in federal prison and a $10,000 fine by United States District Judge William Q. Hayes, announced United States Attorney Karen P. Hewitt. Barajas was sentenced based on his August 27, 2008 guilty plea to participating in a conspiracy to distribute 25 pounds of methamphetamine within the San Diego area.

The methamphetamine conspiracy charge stemmed from a multi-agency investigation that involved several months of court-authorized wiretaps, hundreds of hours of surveillance, five search warrants executed on residences located in San Diego County that resulted in the arrest and indictment of nine individuals.

United States Attorney Hewitt commented, “The impact that methamphetamine has on our society is devastating. The sentence imposed today reflects the reality that those who conspire to distribute methamphetamine will be held accountable for their crimes and will not be allowed to profit.”
