Man Charged In December 2008 Bentley Murder

LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles man was charged with murder late today in connection with the fatal shooting last December of a car salesman whose body was found in his 2005 Silver Bentley.

Michael Angel Aleman, 34 (dob 12-25-1974), was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the fatal shooting on Dec. 12, 2008, of Jose Luis Macias, 25. Authorities said Macias was shot at while driving near Olvera Street and later killed when he fled to the Hollywood (101) Freeway.

Aleman was arrested by Los Angeles police on Tuesday. He appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court late this afternoon and his arrangement was postponed until July 16. Aleman is being held on $1.385 million bail.

The defendant was charged in case No. BA 358488 with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the two separate shootings. He also was charged with one count of shooting at an occupied motor vehicle.

The complaint alleged Aleman was convicted in 1996 of voluntary manslaughter but gave no details of the case. It also alleged Aleman personally fired a handgun to commit the crimes.

If convicted as charged, Aleman faces a possible life prison term

The first shooting occurred on Alameda Street as Macias was stopped for a light at Cesar E. Chavez Avenue. His newly purchased car was hit. The victim sped away, authorities said, and pulled onto the Hollywood freeway heading for the interchange of San Bernardino (10) and Santa Ana (5) freeways. Shots were fired from a vehicle that was following Macias, authorities said, and he was fatally wounded. His car came to a rest at the Mission Road off ramp of the southbound Hollywood Freeway.

The case was filed by Deputy District Attorney Alan Jackson, assistant head deputy of the Major Crimes Division.
