LAPD Officer, Wife Plead Guilty to Petty Theft

POMONA – A Los Angeles Police Department officer and his wife pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of petty theft, the District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Susan Schwartz of the Justice System Integrity Division said Eric Louis Jennings, 31, and his wife, Jamieta Gadson, 26, were sentenced by Judge Jack P. Hunt of Pomona Superior Court to three years formal probation and 45 days of community service. The defendants also were ordered to pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $1,000.

As part of a plea negotiation, a single misdemeanor count – petty theft – was added and all felony counts were dismissed against the couple. Last month, Jennings and Gadson were charged in a felony complaint for arrest warrant. The defendants surrendered to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials the same day charges were filed.

Originally, Jennings faced three felony counts – misappropriation of lost property, forgery and grand theft of personal property – and his wife, Jamieta Gadson faced a single felony count of grand theft of personal property.

Authorities said Gadson was given a blank $1,000 U.S. Postal Service money order on Aug. 2 by a tenant at an apartment complex she managed. Her husband allegedly found the blank money order, forged a friend’s name and cashed it.
