Convicted Hacker Charged with Extortion, Other Technology-Related Counts
SAN FERNANDO – A 23-year-old convicted computer hacker has been charged with attempted extortion and faces several new technology-related charges, the District Attorney’s Office announced today.
Jeffrey Robert Weinberg (dob 03/07/85) of Dana Point was charged in case No. PA060724 with attempted extortion, fraudulent computer access, unauthorized computer access, unauthorized disruption and/or denial of computer services, annoying telephone calls and identity theft.
Weinberg allegedly victimized a teenage girl by hacking into her profile on a popular social networking site in an attempt to electronically sabotage the victim. The defendant, who is in custody on a federal hold, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 28 at San Fernando Superior Court, Division 133.
Deputy District Attorney Donn Hoffman of the High Technology Crime Division has been assigned to the case.
