School Police Officer Convicted of Multiple Counts of Sexual Assault

LOS ANGELES – A 34-year-old Los Angeles School Police officer was convicted today for sexually assaulting a woman during a traffic stop last year.

Deputy District Attorney Renee Korn of the Justice System Integrity Division said a Los Angeles Superior Court jury found Ian Mitchel King guilty of all counts after two and a half days of deliberation.

King was charged with one count of sexual battery by restraint, two counts of sexual penetration by a public official and two counts of sexual penetration by force or duress, the prosecutor said.

On May 3, 2007, King allegedly stopped the victim – a 21-year-old college student from Orange County – near west Adams and south Redondo boulevards in the mid-city area. During the traffic stop, King told the victim she had made an illegal U-turn. King allegedly sexually assaulted the woman after telling her he had to search her. The victim later called police to report the assault.

Judge Marsha N. Revel presided over the three-week trial. King, who faces up to 20 years in state prison, is due to appear in court on March 25 for sentencing.
