Three Charged with Attempted Murder, Kidnapping
WHITTIER -- Three men were charged today with kidnapping and attempted murder of a woman they allegedly left for dead in Turnbull Canyon.
Jose Miguel Ayala, 27 (3-18-82); Vincent David Mendoza 21 (dob 4-29-88); and Edward Meraz, 24 (dob 2-1-85), are scheduled to be arraigned after 1:30 p.m. at Whittier Superior Court, Dept. 3.
They are charged in case VA 111663 with one count each of kidnapping, attempted premeditated murder, aggravated mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon, a knife. All three also face various special allegations including personal use of a dangerous weapon, causing great bodily injury.
The three allegedly kidnapped a 20-year-old Bellflower woman on Tuesday, beat her and slashed her throat and left her for dead in the Turnbull Canyon area of Whittier, police said. She survived the attack and managed to call for help from nearby residents.
The three were arrested Tuesday night by Whittier Police. If convicted, each faces up to life in prison.
